I’m delighted to have been invited by Alexandra Danciu of https:\/\/www.universum.ro to make a presentation about Heartfluttering Digital Storytelling at GoTech World at Romexpo in Bucharest, Romania, on Thursday 3 October 2019. See GoTech World<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I’ll reflect on some of the things the 700 or so people who made their digital story with the BBC taught me about crafting cracking stories; stories that make the fluff on your forearms tingle.<\/p>\n

Here’s an outline of the session:<\/p>\n

From \u2018stunning\u2019 to \u2018swooping\u2019, Gareth shares persuasive lessons he learned from his time with the innovative BBC Digital Storytelling project.\u00a0 How to..<\/em><\/p>\n

1. Add swoops of scale so your audience\u2019s imagination zooms out from a teardrop at the corner of an eye to a sweeping view over a forest vista.<\/em>
\n2. Add sharp unexpected emotional swoops. E.g. \u201cHe cries when he\u2019s happy, and when he\u2019s sad.\u201d<\/em>
\n3. Plant mystery bombs, and don\u2019t explode them too soon in your story.<\/em><\/p>\n

I’ll call on examples from the BBC Capture Wales and Cipolwg ar Gymru back catalogue, especially Hanne Jones’s Walking with Maurice. I’ll screen my new digital story Just In Time for the first time.<\/p>\n

This will be the first time I’ve returned to Romania since helping to drive an Operation Christmas Child truck from Colwyn Bay, north Wales, to Cluj and Oradea in the west of the country in 1994. That was a really emotional journey. This time I’m looking forward to being in the capital, meeting people from all kinds of technology and marketing backgrounds and hearing about new forms of digital storytelling.<\/p>\n
