Any List
Dream Deliverables
These two slides were made by Gareth Morlais for BBC Wales and used in a presentation
about Managing Digital Assets at Streaming Media Europe in London on 13 October 2006.
The first slide is the Any List which highlights some points
we ask Digital Storytellers keep in mind when making their story.
The tips make it more likely the story will be compliant for publication.
The Dream Deliverables concept is a new one.
It's a way Digital Storytellers can archive* and keep their story
and files together on one data DVD containing three files:
1. full-sized movie file
2. text transcript
3. metadata.txt
Typical metadata might be:
copyright holder, storyteller name + contact details,
note saying whether or not it's OK to pass on story + contact details,
copyright log, any under-18s identifiable?, etc.
There needs to be at least two copies of the DVD:
one kept by the storyteller; the other by the rightsholder.
The advantage of using a method like Dream Deliverables
is that it's the story author themself who decides whether or not
it's OK for the the rights-holder to offer the story
for possible exhibition by third parties (like the BBC).
I'm no legal expert but I think this assignation may also
help get around Data Protection Act issues around passing
personal details on to third parties.
* Don't forget to archive on tape too; DVDs aren't good for long-term storage.
